Class Spell Lists

 

This page features spell lists for every spellcasting class in the Elkan 5e ruleset. If you want to sort and filter spells and their descriptions more easily, you can see our spells page. You can also use the search bar or click links below to see full descriptions of spells.

Choosing Spells

Before a spellcaster can use a spell, they must have the spell firmly fixed in mind, or must have access to the spell in a magic item. When you learn or prepare new spells, you pick them from the list belonging to your character class. For example, when you create a level 1 bard, you pick two cantrips from the bard list, as well as four 1st level spells. When you level up to level 2 as a bard, you pick one more 1st level spell.

Different classes interact with their spell lists differently.

  • Bards, Sorcerers, Warlocks, and Wizards choose spells to learn when they level up. These spells are always prepared, but they cannot prepare spells that they don't know. These are called 'known casters'. Known casters can swap one of their spells during level up in addition to learning new spell(s).

  • Clerics, Druids, Paladins, and Rangers do not have to choose which spells they know when they level up, instead gaining access to their entire class list. At the end of a level up or a long rest, they can switch any number of their spells for other spells on their list. These are called 'prepared casters'.

 

In every case, the number of spells a caster can have known or prepared at any given time depends on the character’s level.

 

Some characters and many monsters have special abilities that let them cast spells without using spell slots. These characters and monsters are not usually bound to the spell lists below.

Choosing Spells

Concentration and Rituals

We mark spells that require Concentration with a (C)These spells have ongoing effects that can end if the caster fails a concentration check as a result of taking damage, or if they cast another concentration spell.

 

We mark spells that can be casts as a ritual with an (R). When a spellcaster casts one of these spells, they can take an extra 10 minutes to cast it at its lowest spell level without using a spell slot.

When you gain a level in this class, you can choose one of the bard spells or cantrips you know and replace it with another spell from the bard spell list. If you learn a spell from Magical Secrets at higher levels, you can exchange that spell for one that meets the same restrictions as the one you are replacing.
